We have great personal friendships with all of our trainers and and it is those friendships we want to extend to the people who join Chelsea Thoroughbreds as owners.
Richard has achieved a quite remarkable feat of becoming 2014 Champion trainer in just his first year in charge since taking over from his father Richard Snr. He notched up a Classic winner with Night of Thunder and numerous Group & Royal Ascot winners along the way. Having been assistant to his father for 12 years, he was certainly no rookie, and has very smoothly kept this power house yard of 250+ horses at the very top of the Thoroughbred world, and looks set to continue.
Charlie has been lucky enough to work closely with many Classic & Group winners as assistant to his father Barry. In 2013, in his first year training under his own name, Charlie trained his own Classic winner with Just The Judge in the Irish 1,000 Guineas for a combined ownership team of Qatari Sheikh Fahad & the Sangster family. Further group winners came flowing throughout the year, culminating in a quite breathtaking performance in Breeders Cup winner Chriselliam at Santa Anita, USA. Faringdon Place, just outside Lambourn, has 150+ horses with Charlie at the helm & some of the most modern facilities in the area.
Ralph is in his 15th season as a trainer & 3rd at Kimpton Down Stables near Andover, with his 14th season having been his best to date. A multiple Classic winner including an incredible 1 - 2 in the 2013 Epsom Oaks emulated the great Sir Noel Murless' achievement 41 years previously & helped him to accumulate over a million pounds in prize money. Group winners have come in both Europe & the UK and a wonderful Breeders Cup winner in 2008 with "Muhannak" at Santa Anita. With 125+ boxes now at Ralph's disposal there is surely only more of the same to come.
Andrew has remarkably - given his age, been in charge at Park House Stables in Kingsclere, near Newbury for over a decade having succeeded his father in 2003.The family history in racing runs so deep it can even boast 4 Grand National winners from the early 1900's. There's nothing Andrew hasn't experienced in racing having been an amateur jockey & winning 20 races before a career in training came calling. Group 1 successes in England, Dubai, Hong Kong & Canada sit nicely along side his Classic Oaks winner 'Casual Look' at Epsom in just his first year of training. Andrew can also list Her Majesty the Queen as an owner amongst his 175+ horses.
Martyn Meade trained his first winner back in 1972 and has trained many winners under both rules whilst continuing a commercial career. Having concentrated on Flat racing since the 1980’s and with multiple Stakes winners has been successful with 2 year olds, notably the six times winner Lunar Mist. The move to the quite splendid Sefton Lodge marks a new era with a total dedication to producing top class winners. Martyn's commitment to everything racing is abundantly clear when entering the quite stunning Sefton Lodge. We are delighted to welcome Martyn into the Chelsea Thoroughbred's team having already trained winners for Richard Morecombe.
George has always had racehorses in the family, going back to his great grandfather in the 1920's & 30's. A former point-to-point rider himself, led to a stint with Paul Nicholls, riding some very smart types at the yard before the big meetings. Further industry experiences with Blandford Bloodstock and Angus Gold, Sheikh Hamdan's racing manager, Mark Tompkins, Michael Bell & in the USA with Eddie Kenneally and then to California with Simon Callaghan only fueled his passion for Racing. The American adventure was cut short to oblige a call from Lady Cecil to serve as Assistant at Warren Place following the death of the great Sir Henry Cecil. George's time at Warren Place included the three Group 1 victories of Noble Mission culminating in that memorable and emotional afternoon on Champions Day in 2014. George is ready for the challenges that lay ahead and Chelsea Thoroughbreds are very excited to have him on board as one of our trainers for 2016, and beyond...
Tom originally began his training career in Lambourn before accepting the offer from Michael Owen and Andrew Black to take over as trainer at Manor House Stables in 2009. He began his racing career as a jump jockey based predominantly at Martin Pipe's yard, where he rode a total of 96 winners. Tom also worked as assistant to Ralph Beckett and South African trainer Mike De Kock. He is now in his tenth year of training and has already achieved considerable success including wins in the Group 1 Irish St. Leger and the Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup.
Simon joined the training ranks just two years ago however was exceptionally well qualified. He previously worked for John Dunlop and Sir Mark Prescott before being recruited by Sheikh Mohammed to help launch Godolphin in 1992 where he stayed for over 20 years. In just a short time training Crisford has already achieved what would take many trainers decades. In his first season, he won the Group 3 Solario Stakes with First Selection who was also runner up in this years French 2000 Guineas. Simon ended his first season with a staggering 26 per cent winners to runners.
Ed has been surrounded by racing all his life and began training at the age of 25. During which time, he has trained Group 1 winners throughout the world including champion race fillies OUIJA BOARD and SNOW FAIRY. We look forward to having our first runner with Ed and visiting the beautiful La Grange stables as he joins the Chelsea Thoroughbred ranks for 2017.
