Horse: Cadzand

By: 6yo gelding by Stowaway

Trainer: Dan Skelton

Bought privately after impressively winning a 4 year old maiden point to point at Charlton Horethorne in the spring of 2019 when trained by Tom Lacey, CADZAND spent his first season with Dan Skelton running in a couple of National Hunt Flat Races. He finished 3rd at Newbury and then a good 2nd at Warwick before having a break.

The decision to give him time to develop physically and mentally looks to be paying off as he embarked on his Novice Hurdling career in October, running well to finish 2nd at Ayr on heavy ground which didn’t suit him. He followed that up with a very impressive victory at Warwick without coming off the bridle.

The handicapper gave him a rating of 129, which he took advantage of in winning the closing race of the Ladbrokes Christmas Festival at Kempton, a very competitive handicap hurdle, in some style. Now rated 138, we are at the top handicap hurdles with him this season, starting with the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury in mid February.

He is a potentially very high class prospect, especially given that he is bred and looks to be a chaser. Novice chasing is likely to be on the agenda for next season and we are very excited to see him over a fence.
