The Team

As a team at Chelsea Thoroughbreds we have all had a lifetime involvement in horse racing. With a background of owning, breeding, training, riding, journalism and media, we feel this adds a depth of knowledge that sets us apart from others.

MANAGING DIRECTOR & RACING MANAGER

Emma Spencer

Emma was born into racing being the daughter of former racehorse trainer Lynda Ramsden. With a huge interest in the sport, she was always passionate about horses from a young age and became British Champion Amateur Jockey on the flat twice by the time she was 19 years old. This led to a very successful television career that has spanned over 20 years broadcasting the most significant races from all over the world featuring events including The Melbourne Cup, Saudi Cup, Qatar Cup, Singapore Cup, Hong Kong International, Dubai World Cup, Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe and the major festivals in the UK on Channel 4 including Royal Ascot and the Epsom Derby. With the combination of Emma’s contacts, knowledge, experience and naturally friendly nature she takes pride in making your experience as pleasurable a journey as possible along with sharing her passion and understanding for the sport.

PRESIDENT

Richard Morecombe

Richard is the Founder and President of Chelsea Thoroughbreds. He has had a successful City career and is currently President of Panmure Gordon, a city based financial institution.

Richard has a huge passion for horse racing having owned horses himself for over 35 years with involvement in over 200 winners, including at Group level.

Richard has strong personal relationships with all of our trainers, most of whom he has known for many years and had horses with. Combined with the bloodstock agents and trainers he is involved in the purchasing of yearlings where between them they combine knowledge, experience, judgement, skill and a proven track record to select horses that are appropriate for Chelsea Thoroughbreds at the right price.

NATIONAL HUNT RACING MANAGER

Ella McNeill

Ella has been involved in horse racing for her whole life and has spent most of her weekends in the winter on a racecourse somewhere around the country. With her family being big supporters of the National Hunt game and hugely passionate about racing, she has adopted this same mentality and has enormous enthusiasm for the sport. After graduating from Cardiff University in 2020, she threw herself into the fast-paced world of tech sales in the City. However, racing came calling so Ella decided to ditch her career in the City and apply for the BHA Development Programme, which she graduated from in September 2022. This included spending several invaluable months working with the ROA in Reading, where she gained a real insight and overview of the industry.

With her depth of knowledge and wealth of contacts in the National Hunt sphere, she is set to re-launch and oversee the new National Hunt arm. She has many exciting plans to expand this side of the business to a similar size of the Flat arm and brings a fresh and enthusiastic approach.
